II Edition of the COMMO International Staff Week 2026: Strengthening Academic Cooperation and Internationalization Across the Mediterranean

The II Edition of the COMMO International Staff Week recently took place in Rome from the 4th to the 8th May 2026, hosted by UniversitĂ  degli Studi Internazionali di Roma (UNINT) in collaboration with UNIMED. The initiative gathered 29 representatives from Higher Education Institutions across 14 countries, creating an important space for dialogue and cooperation between Europe and the Mediterranean region.

The programme focused on strengthening participants’ capacities in the field of academic international cooperation and development, with particular attention dedicated to Internationalization at Home, Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM), Virtual Exchange and Sustainable Development in Higher Education. Through workshops and peer-to-peer discussions coordinated by the UNIMED staff, participants exchanged experiences, reflected on common challenges and explored practical strategies to enhance internationalization within their institutions.

At a time when global crises and regional instabilities increasingly limit physical mobility, the Staff Week reaffirmed the value of internationalization as a powerful tool for fostering intercultural dialogue and strengthening academic cooperation. The initiative also highlighted the crucial role of education in promoting mutual understanding, inclusion and the development of meaningful and lasting partnerships across the Mediterranean region.
